This wayfinding graphic and directional signage system simplifies the communication of a complex floor access system guiding visitors around the redeveloped prestige offices of Tower 42 (formerly NatWest Tower) in the City of London.
This environmental graphics system was commissioned by Fletcher Priest Architects, who redesigned many aspects of this now multi-tenanted site. The lift cars of the building are two stories high - a clever engineering solution to the problem of the site's small footprint, but the necessary interchange floors make travelling floor to floor complicated. With a stable population in the NatWest era, occupants eventually learned the old system, but with multiple occupancy the more transient population and their visitors needed a graphic approach that could be quickly absorbed. A colour-coded map identifying lift shafts and interchange floors, and a system of directional signage throughout the building makes it at last possible to navigate the building without detailed knowledge.
